Tom’s Urban has taken over the cavernous space previously occupied by the ESPN Zone at LA Live.  They have revamped everything from the layout at decor, to bringing a fresh new food menu which includes items they describe as “modern versions of popular classics” such as burgers, chicken, tacos, salads and other standard bar fare.

 

They also have a great cocktail menu and a large selection of both bottled and draught beers.  They did, however, keep the TVs!

Because of its locale and great reviews, we decided to stop by on our way to a recent playoff game at Staples Center.  We ordered the French Fries Two Ways (combo of regular and sweet potato fries, cut skinny and served crispy and hot with two different dipping sauces),

the Truffled Cracked Lobster Sliders (served on a soft brioche bun with arugula and truffled mayo), and the Butter Poached Lobster and Shrimp Tacos (laid out on a soft corn tortillas with shredded cabbage topped with chipotle aioli and cilantro crema).

 

All were absolutely delicious!!!

We did not get to try a lot of drinks, but were extremely happy with what we did order.  We had a couple each of the Urban Mule which is one of Tom’s Cocktails on Tap.  This drink was phenomenal.  I honestly have been thinking about it ever since.  I have had a lot of mules from a lot of different places and this was without a doubt one of or maybe the best Moscow Mules I have ever had.  It didn’t even matter that it doesn’t come in traditional copper mug.  I think the secret to why it is so good is that it is made with pressed ginger and simple syrup which gives it an awesome ginger flavor that tops most mules which usually are made with ginger beer.

Not only can I not wait to have another one…I also can’t wait to try this version at home.  (I’ll keep you updated with results).

Finally, how can you not love a spot that have sriracha on the tables!

In the meantime, if you are looking for an escape in the middle of the concrete jungle of downtown LA with great food and yummy things to eat…stroll into Tom’s Urban and enjoy!
