Friday night in Atlanta, visiting one of my dear friends and she took me to an amazing restaurant called Watershed for dinner.   The restaurant is located on Peachtree and their napkins state that they serve “creative and delicious southern food enjoyed in comfort and community.”  I agree.  The decor of the restaurant is warm and inviting and features a large communal, butcher block bar.  Alex, our friendly and super knowledgeable bartender, greeted us at the bar.

Starting with the drinks, I sat down, perused the cocktail menu, and had to order the Zihua Margarita.

For those of you who don’t know, I happen to have been born in Zihuatanejo, Mexico so I was surprised and thoroughly intrigued to try this cocktail made with 123 organic tequila, cointreau, and fresh squeezed lime juice and served in a mason jar.  Classic margarita with great flavor!

Next I tried the Uptown Martini, made with hammer & sickle russian vodka and blue cheese stuffed olives.  Another straight forward, classic drink.  Great tasting and very smooth.

My friend had the Cool Heat, a unique and spicy martini made with ruby red grapefruit vodka, jalapeño, mint, orange liquer, and fresh squeezed lime juice.

Now about the food…it was definitely creative and delicious!  Alex suggested a sea bean salad which was a special of the night.  The salad was tossed in a delectable Asian style dressing and topped with sesame seeds.  YUMMY!  Next came the BBQ Shrimp with grilled ciabatta which really isn’t a BBQ shrimp at all, but is definitely one of the most exquisite and flavorful dishes I have ever had!  No really, this is one of my favorite dishes ever.  Ok, so if it isn’t BBQ then what is it?  It is perfectly cooked shrimp in a cajun style sauce that is not only a perfect accompaniment to the shrimp, but when you dip the warm grilled ciabatta bread in the sauce the flavor is truly incredible.  Yep, we asked for more bread!

Everything at Watershed was amazing.  Besides those shrimp, the highlight of the night was meeting handsome Chef Joe and letting him know how much we enjoyed everything.

Did I mention that their famous fried chicken was named among the best in the country by Food and Wine mag?  Well, if you want to try it make sure you stop by Watershed for lunch or dinner on Wednesday because that is the only day it is served.  Unfortunately for me, I was there on a  Friday.
